Microsoft today announced its first preview build of Windows 11. Windows Insiders can choose to download the Windows 11 preview ( build 22000.51) now. The preview lets you access the new Start menu as well as multitasking features as well as an overhauled Microsoft Store. The official preview, in contrast to the earlier Windows 11 leak, has an upgraded File Explorer. It replaces the ribbon with a command bar, making managing files easier.
A majority of the Windows 11 visual changes that Microsoft announced last week would be in this initial preview. The new Start menu, with its center-centered launcher-like interface, is included in this build and is accompanied by rounded corners throughout the OS and enhancements in the notification center, volume-flyouts, and many more. Windows 11 will consist of a parallax motion effect when your computer is equipped with an accelerometer.
This preview also contains the new themes for Windows 11 as well as dark and light mode enhancements, as well as the brand new Widgets feature. Microsoft has integrated the new themes Glow, Captured Motion and Sunrise with brand new Windows 11 sounds as you use them.
However, two major Windows 11 features are missing: Microsoft Teams integration (and Android apps for Windows). These features are still being developed and tested by Microsoft; however, they will be available in future preview builds.
The Windows 11 preview also includes Microsoft's new Snap Groups and Snap Layouts, which are designed to increase multitasking across a variety of sizes. These Snap features improve on several of the multitasking options that Windows has provided over the years, but they're easier to locate and are more effective in multi-monitor scenarios.
Microsoft is also updating the Settings section in Windows 11. The preview build comes with changes that allow users to find the settings they need. Sets now come with upper-left-hand navigation that is consistent across the entire screen, making it faster to move between sections. Microsoft has added new "heroes" controls at the top of Settings, which provide quick access and settings for each team.
